> Interior design for cottage - bedroom 1

We are working on some bedroom interiors with the most wonderful family for their new cottage in a beautiful Oxfordshire village.  The cottage is being totally refurbished and and converted from a 3 bed to a 4 bed property.

Here are the plans for the bedroom of their 11 year old daughter. The room is about 2m x 2.4m (so it's snug!) but it doesn't have to skimp on style or storage. The initial issue, was storage - how to fit a wardrobe, chest of drawers, bed and a desk into the room. Simple - build upwards! We designed a raised bed, with fixed ladder and storage underneath featuring clothes rails and shelving. Loads of room. A void space above the girls head area will contain a small shelf unit and internal light and a desk with paper lanterns above. The bed will be clad in scrapwood wallpaper and a wallcovering sits on the desk wall. It all looks grown up and sophisticated and, crucially, will grow with her as she gets older.

The bed has been constructed out of MDF and I'll show you some images of it tomorrow - it looks fabulous... all ready for painting!
